etcu: NEW foundations
September 21, 2009
As a founding member of ETC, I have been involved since 1998 in creating arts education programs for students, K-12, any time and place we can--summer camps, school residencies, teacher workshops--the company has always prided itself on extreme flexibility and range. ETC is devoted to nothing less than ‘Changing Lives through the Arts;‘ not only the lives of our students are changed through contact with ETC, though. but the lives of our artists, theater professionals transformed by ETC’s training program into professional educators: teaching artists as we call them.
In Fall 2009, I proposed and was granted approval to bring all ETC professional development activities under one roof, now known as ‘etcu.’ Activities will eventually include training 1st year teachers (mentoring, counseling, observation & feedback); continuing professional development for continuing and veteran teachers (peer mentoring, lesson plan swapping); workshops (in-house experts, outside experts, peer lesson swap nights, attended by both ETC and school teachers); and development of an online lesson plan forum. Watch this space for links!
I will also continue to develop ETC’s video offerings, both in the summer and during the school year. It’s an exciting time to be back with the company.
Summer 2009 I directed a new camp for ETC: Shakespeare’s Shorts. Every camper at Shakespeare’s Shorts got experience acting, directing, screenwriting, editing, working camera, lights and sound. They made an amazing team and, in spite of 2009 being the pilot summer, pulled off TEN short films in just two weeks. Please check out their fantastic films on youtube.
